How we start a renovation
a f t e r
Like all things starting is always the hard part….
The following is a broad overview of how we approach our new renovation projects. If you are thinking about doing a reno, these are the steps we use + think will help if you are struggling with how to start. In Short this first phase, is basically a fact finding mission, compiling all our information + organizing thoughts, documents, and ideas.

Whether it’s electronic or a physical 3 ring, keeping all your info together is key. So starting one + creating folders within to keep your thoughts organized into sections.
All our info is going in there; inspiration pictures, before pictures, measurements, communications, drawings etc, even put your own notes and thoughts in there. This will free up your mind to deal with your regular day to day, which usually means you’ve mitigated your stress!

What needs to be done and what NEEDS to be done. A list of all the items/ rooms you are having issues with and why, what you would like changed, + if possible a step further what you would like instead. We block these into individual rooms to make it more manageable, and we put the actionable steps as to how we next need to proceed. So for instance if your list says -Hate bathroom layout- we know the next step is to - reconfigure bathroom-
We put our notes and thoughts in the binder

We know all that needs to be done, so now we make a plan. There is a lot of moving parts that go into a plan We usually do this by creating our working drawings, so we can properly explain what are intentions are + to check if our ideas work + what our physical constraints are. These drawings then go out to the experts to price out the project. Contractors electricians, millworkers etc. whoever needs to be involved. This could also be handed over to a contractor who can set you up with these trades for you. If getting the ideas and intentions down, or being able to communicate the plan, is a bit intimidating hiring an interior designer for a consultation, to help you either get your ideas on paper ( as sometimes you may not need construction documents) or getting them to prepare the drawings for you if it is more intensive. Having a plan on paper is KEY.
we put the plan, drawings, and sketches in the binder

I mean this is the fun part, and we know you have a pint rest board, so now is the time to utilize it, by curating your thoughts and ideas. We create a mood or concept boards using inspiration photos, furniture and materials pictures, that we feel captures the heart and vibe of our client and the space We have asked questions about style and colour intention in the previous 2 sections, when we walk through the house, (questions like, what do you love in this room, what do you hate etc), to get an idea about sense of style. Once we have a complete overview, we take our conversations and pintrest ideas and create a cohesive and unique board to funnel to a specific interior design direction.
and then we put the concept in the binder!
